What to Look for When Choosing a Home Security Camera

Buying a security camera is a big investment for most people, and it can be hard to know which one is the best buy. Security cameras come in many different styles and brands, making shopping difficult without knowing what you are looking for. To help you find the best surveillance system for your needs, you’ll want to consider several factors when evaluating different products. By doing this, you won’t get swept up in advertising; instead, you will be able to buy based on what matters most to you.

Price

The first thing to keep in mind while shopping for a home security camera is the price. This could be one of your most significant factors.

Ease of Installation

Depending on the type of security system you get, it might be wired or wireless. Wireless cameras are relatively easy to install and can be a do-it-yourself project for many people. Wired cameras are more challenging to set up, and you will probably want to hire a pro to do it for you.

Picture Quality and Video Options

When it comes to video quality, you will have plenty of options depending on what you are looking for. Most security cameras come with 720p or 1080p recording capabilities.

If you want the best quality video, you will want to look for a camera that can record at least 1080p. If you want to save data storage space or don’t have the bandwidth for large files, 720p might be enough for your needs.

When it comes to options, most cameras give users control over how they are recording by giving them choices based on time of day, motion detected, and audio presence. Some cameras come with extra features like panning and tilting options to make the video easier to watch.

Wired Or Wireless

Wired

A wired security camera system requires that the video recorder is connected to the camera(s) via wires which are then run through walls or ceilings into an electrical outlet.

The benefit of a wired system is that you get the most reliable connection possible because it’s not susceptible to changes in signal strength or outside interference. For most of us, professional installation is required.

The Ring Spotlight Cam Wired is an option and has similar features as the wireless with the added advantage of a slightly brighter spotlight.

Wireless

A wireless security camera system allows you to view your video feed through a mobile device or web browser without running wires back to the recorder, making installation much easier than running wires between it and the camera(s).

On the downside, depending on the type of camera you choose, wireless systems are typically less reliable than wired systems simply because signals can be interrupted or interfered with by items such as electrical appliances.

A wire-free security camera gives you more leeway in where you point it or place it. But this also means that you need to find a free and safe power source for it. The Ring Spotlight Cam battery-operated being wireless comes under this category.
