Pros

  • Motion-activated floodlights: The ultra-bright LED floodlights make it easy to spot any suspicious activity, even in dark areas.
  • HD video recording: You get clear 1080p HD video, ensuring you can see all the important details.
  • Two-way talk: With built-in audio announcements, you can communicate through the camera from anywhere using the Ring app.
  • 105-decibel siren: The built-in security siren helps scare off intruders with a loud alarm.
  • Easy installation: Setting up the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus is straightforward and it quickly becomes part of your Ring device ecosystem.
  • Affordable price: Compared to other security cameras, it’s reasonably priced and often includes a free 30-day trial of Ring Protect Plus.
  • Remote access: You can view live feeds and manage settings directly from your mobile device, giving real-time notifications.
  • Customizable motion zones: I set up my own motion zones to avoid unnecessary alerts from large outdoor areas like the street.

Cons

  • Power connection needed: It needs to be hardwired, so it’s not as flexible as battery-powered options.
  • False alarms: Sometimes, motion detection can be too sensitive. I adjusted my settings to only get alerts from specific areas I care about.
  • Optional subscription: To make full use of all the in-app features, such as cloud storage, you need an optional Ring Protect Plan.

My Experience:

I was getting motion alerts from down the street. I wasn’t interested in getting notifications from that far away (and my neighbors getting home and in and out of their cars etc.), so I set up motion zones and just had motion detected on my property. It was very easy to do.

Also, my wifi changed, and I had to reset the cameras. I had to have someone come out to hit the reset buttons because the cameras are positioned higher up on the house than I was able to reach. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem for others if you own a high enough ladder.

I did get an alert for some motion detected at my back wall in the middle of the night. The motion set off a video being created that came through very clearly on the app – the culprit was a cat, lol.

Also, I did install a ring doorbell that alerts me to motion at my door. I like this feature as I can tell who is at my door before opening it. If you’re interested in ring video doorbells, the one I purchased is: Ring Video Doorbell.
