3 Best Mobility Scooter Transport Racks for 2020

You’ve purchased your electric mobility scooter, and it’s great for outings. But at some point, you’re going to want to transport it to a different location. Maybe to a relative’s home for a birthday celebration, perhaps to a museum, a mall, or even to travel to your vacation destination. For those times, if you don’t have a folding mobility scooter, then you’ll want to look at carriers and purchasing a mobility scooter transport rack that attaches with a hitch to the back of a car/truck. Let’s look at the 3 Best Mobility Scooter Transport Racks for 2020.

There will be some considerations you will want to take into account before your purchase. How much weight does your transport rack need to be able to carry? Will, it fit your car, truck, or RV. What measurements does it need to be to accommodate your scooter? Do you want one that folds when the scooter isn’t on it? I would suggest getting a rack that has a ramp for easier loading and unloading of the scooter. These are just some things you’ll want to consider.

Before getting started on transport, racks let me take a moment to bring to mind three posts that preceded this in a series of articles on mobility scooters. If you are still shopping around, “Electric Scooters for Seniors” discusses the different options you will want to think about before purchasing a scooter. “Electric Scooters for Seniors – Product Comparison” reviews/compares five different types of electric mobility scooters. Last but not least, “Best Mobility Scooter Accessories” discusses some of the most popular accessories for mobility scooters.

Let’s get started by looking at 3 of the best mobility scooter transport racks that are available: the Husky, the Maxxhaul, and the Goplus.

MY CHOICE

Husky

3 Best Mobility Scooter Transport Racks for 2020 - Mobility Scooter Transport Rack

The Husky Towing Model 88133 came in as the number one pick.

ASIN B0794BPX48

Measuring 50-1/4″ L x 29-1/2″ W x 4 “H it will accommodate most mobility scooters. There is a 500 lb weight limit, and most mobility scooters weigh less. It will attach to a 2-inch receiver hitch.

The ramp is 47″ long x 29.5″ wide with a gradual slope allowing for the scooter to be easily loaded.

The construction is made of aluminum and has two anchor points to secure your scooter while in transport.

The big plus in winning the number 1 spot is that the Husky folds up when not in use, making parking so much easier.

The Husky is a great choice overall.

RUNNER-UP

MaxxHaul

A close runner up is the MaxxHaul. It has a large bed and side rails and supports up to 500 lbs. The inside of the rack measures 46 x 27-1/4 x 6-5/8 inch, which will fit almost all mobility scooters.

The construction of the basket is aluminum which allows for corrosion resistance. Though the rack is made of aluminum, the under-support and hitch shaft are constructed from high-grade steel.

The high sides of the bed measure 4 inches in height and provide for numerous tie-down spots if desired.

The ramp is 60″ long and folds up when not in use.

The one con is that the bed of the rack itself does not fold so it can make parking more difficult, which is the main reason for the runner up position in our review.

Overall, with the size and construction of the MaxxHaul, this will be the perfect fit for most mobility scooters.

BUDGET-MINDED

Goplus

The Goplus is a good buy for the money. Measuring 50″ x 29.5″ it is a size that will accommodate most mobility scooters. The total length of the ramp, when extended, is 41.5” (L) X 27.5” (W) which is shorter than our other picks.

The height of the rails measure 9-inches which is one of the perks I really like about this.

There are multiple tie-down locations in the bed of the rack and it does come with reflectors to enhance the safety of driving at night.

The weight capacity is 500 lbs, again, most mobility scooters are lighter than this.

The construction of the Goplus is a heavy-duty aluminum structure and the cargo carrier is rust and corrosion-resistant.

There a few drawbacks to the Goplus transport rack:  1) it does not fold up against the vehicle when not in use. This can make it more difficult to find a parking spot to allow for the extra width of the rack behind the vehicle.  2) there is a 45mph speed limitation and 3) there is no mention of a warranty or guarantee.

Best Mobility Scooter Transport Rack - GoplusOverall, this is a nice transport rack and may very well suit the needs you have in transporting your mobility scooter.

  1. I have a class B RV and I need to haul a car and 2 mobility scooters. Our scooters are Merits Mobility Pioneer 3 so they don’t come apart and are bigger then most. Help.

    • Hi Merritt,

I don’t have a solution but maybe an idea – have you contacted your local RV dealership to see what they would suggest or contacted your RV manufacturer? They would know the towing capacity and any safety issues you would need to consider while also taking into consideration towing your car. Maybe a toy trailer would be large enough for your scooters? But again, you want to be sure that your RV could safely handle towing one along with your vehicle. If you come up with a solution please come back and share it with us. Thank you for stopping by.
